It was an up and down experience for Rose Namajunas who lost her strawweight title to Jessica Andrade at the end of a violent slam. But the idea of failure never set in for the now former champ. Instead it was almost relief.
“It’s hard to keep having fun with this,” Namajunas said during the post-fight presser, presumably referring to the strenuous world of combat sports. Strenuous enough to break the most hardened men and women.
Included in this mass attrition are the former pound-for-pound claimants who also appeared on the card. From BJ Penn and Anderson Silva to “Big Nog” Nogueira and Jose Aldo, each legend went home with a loss. Aldo remained competitive. And Penn at least survived the distance. But Nogueira and Silva weren’t so lucky.
The Brazilians were on the wrong end of what made up two of the the night’s six bouts that ended in a knockout or submission stoppage. You can watch them all here.
