An illegal knee nearly stopped UFC 235’s main event early. Jon Jones put a knee into the head of a downed Anthony Smith. But the UFC light heavyweight champion settled for a two-point deduction.
Elsewhere on the card, fights did come to an abrupt halt by way of fists, knees, and a polarizing stoppage by Herb Dean. After surviving a thrashing by Robbie Lawler, promotional newcomer Ben Askren clawed his way to a clinch and eventually a bulldog choke. What happened next has prompted UFC president Dana White to seek out a rematch between the two.
