The brainchild of former UFC champion Rich Franklin, ONE Warrior Series (OWS) is back in action for the third time this year. The production showcases young, fledging talent and gives them extra incentive to turn in red-hot action with the possibility of earning six-figure contracts.
Franklin, 44, helped conceptualize OWS for fight fans this way:
The talent that we have recruited will compete against each other, or a talent from outside of the organization. My athletes have signed contracts giving them the ability to earn a contract with ONE Championship that exceeds USD$100,000. I can award these contracts at my own discretion.
So this week in Singapore, on June 20, more budding talent will be eligible for life-changing money. At the top of the 16-fight bill, Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg, 22, of Mongolia, helps bolster the show against Hyun Jin Lee, from South Korea.
Zoltsetseg is now a six-fight professional training out of a camp called Zorky’s MMA but but has a boxing background. He has won back-to-back fights, while competing in four other OWS productions dating back to last summer.
After a late start, the 31-year-old Lee has come out victorious in his first two professional contests, making the jump to the paid ranks in March 2018 at ONE Warriors 1. Lee, who operates his own gym in his native South Korea, has finished his first two opponents and can make that three straight against his younger opponent.
