Watching combat sports is more convenient than ever with services like UFC Fight Pass. Despite its name, a paid subscription provides more than just UFC undercards. Viewers are always given easy access to other top MMA promotions like Island Fights and an array of martial arts from Muay thai and Lethwei to submission grappling and boxing.
To help navigate the action ahead, what follows is a quick and dirty guide to every combat sports event on UFC Fight Pass this week (May 9-12).
Date: Thursday, May 9
Time: 9 p.m. ET
Main event: Chase Sherman (13-6) vs. Rashaun Jackson (5-1)
Sherman, 29, as proved once again that there is life outside of the UFC. He’s set to headline the latest Island Fights production, this one from Orange Beach, Alabama. Sherman is officially 2-0, back-to-back TKO victories, since receiving his walking papers from UFC brass.
He did settle for a split-decision draw just last month when he partook in some bare knuckle action against Sam Shewmaker at BKFC 5. But he looks for another knockout victory over Jackson, who has rattled off five straight wins since dropping his professional debut in 2016.
Also featured on the bill is 19-year-old upstart Chase Hooper, who stands at a towering six feet, one inches in the featherweight division.
Date: Friday, May 10
Time: 9:30 p.m. ET
Main event: Abraham Nova (14-0) vs. Mario Ezequiel Sayal Lozano (18-2-1)
The UFC’s reach into boxing continues with their new partnership with Murphy’s Boxing, formed by none other than Dropkick Murphy’s frontman Ken Casey.
Headlining the eight-fight bill, Abraham “Super” Nova returns to the ring following another undefeated campaign in 2018. Last year he went 5-0, lifting the NABF super featherweight title in the process. Nova is 25 and has an extensive history in the United States amateur scene, winning the 2014 National Boxing Championships. He is currently ranked Top 10 in the world by the WBA.
Standing in opposition will be Lozano, 24, who makes his way from Buenos Aries, Argentina having won 10 of his last 12 contests.
Going down in Springfield, Massachusetts, the highly-anticipated show also featured two-time Olympian Carlos Gongora, who is undefeated in the middleweight division.
Date: Sunday, May 12
Time: 6 p.m. ET
Main event: Jake Shields (33-11-1, MMA) vs. Austin Vanderford (7-0, MMA)
In the cage, Chael Sonnen is not shy about putting on a show. So, unsurprising, his Submission Underground promotion has stacked the bill Sunday evening.
Welterweight stalwart Jake Shields caps off the night’s competition against Austin Vanderford, an undefeated Bellator combatant hoping to make a name for himself after marrying Women’s MMA star Paige VanZant.
Other MMA icons on the card are Diego Sanchez, Gilbert Melendez and Frank Mir—each rolling with other UFC veterans.
But set to steal the show will be four tag-team grappling matches, “including affiliate representatives from 10th Planet, Brazilian Top Team, and Straight Blast Gym,” MMA Junkie reported.
