Though Bellator 216’s preliminary lineup provided consistent violence, the top of the bill left viewers wondering when it would all end, and perhaps raising anticipation for Sunday’s UFC card.
Saturday’s show had the star power to put on a fireworks display. But Michael Page’s first step up in competition left him fighting off his glaring weaknesses, routinely exposed by Paul Daley’s takedowns, drawing boos from the Connecticut crowd. Additionally, heavyweight luminaries Mirko Cro Cop and Cheick Kongo, both, recorded wins over men who had previously defeated them but with the help of questionable scorecards.
In all, over half the night’s bouts ended in a knockout or submission stoppage. Only one was a part of the main card. Of course violence is violence no matter the time of day or fighter dishing it out.
