John Salter (16-4) defeated Chidi Njokuani (18-6) in the main event of Bellator 210 on Friday night live on DAZN. Salter won via rear-naked choke hold with 35 seconds left in the first round of the fight.
This victory gives John Salter the second most wins via submission (five) in Bellator Middleweight history and a big upset in the Middleweight division, as it could’ve led to a title shot for Njokuani.
Salter’s gameplan was to take the fight to the ground with his superb wrestling skills. He did just that, in an efficient manner.
“I put him on the ground,” Salter stated in the post-fight interview. “I was taking my time—heard somebody say one minute left, and I really didn’t want him back on his feet so I went for the finish.”
Chael Sonnen asked Salter who he wanted to fight next: “I have to keep proving myself to get back to that point, I’ll fight anyone they put in front of me.”
