Hiroyuki Tetsuka Fights for World Championship at Pancrase 306

Headlining his second straight Pancrase show, Hiroyuki Tetsuka (6-3) is set for a welterweight championship fight Sunday morning from Tokyo, Japan at Pancrase 306.

Tetsuka, known as the “Last Samurai,” will meet countryman Hiromitsu Miura (12-7) in a 170-pound title fight. The action comes on the heels of the storied promotion’s decision to carry out strict drug screening for title fights. Though the exercise won’t start until Pancrase 307. Asia MMA reported that it was the “first time that the long-running Japanese promotion has implemented a rigorous drug testing program.”

Tetsuka, 29, is a nine-fight professional, who has won back-to-back fights.  Previously, the Japanese warrior outpointed former beltholder Akihiro Murayama at Pancrase 302. The event marked the company’s 25th anniversary.

Miura is 37 years old, who has not technically won a fight since 2016. But as a former competitor in the WEC over a decade ago, Miura is well-versed at the highest level of MMA, trading leather with recognizable fighters like Carlos Condit and Jason “Mayhem” Miller.

This scheduled five-rounder is bolstering Pancrase’s relatively short card—six fights in all.
